Through the IJT, we are bringing together some of the world’s leading legal minds to develop practical solutions that reduce legal friction and support the cross-border adoption and trading of digital assets. The IJT’s work will help ensure that the law keeps pace with the rapidly evolving digital economy.

Sir Geoffrey Vos, Master of the Rolls and Chair of the IJT

What is the International Jurisdiction Taskforce (IJT)?

The legal framework governing the adoption, trading, and financial use of digital assets remains fragmented across jurisdictions, creating uncertainty for businesses and investors.

Established in 2025, the International Jurisdiction Taskforce (IJT) is an independent panel that brings together legal experts from the most widely used private law systems worldwide, including the United Kingdom, United States, France, Singapore, the European Union, Australia, and Japan. The objective of the IJT is to present proposals to reduce the international legal barriers to the use and development of novel digital asset technology, including blockchain and smart contracts.

The objective of the IJT is to consider how the most widely used private law systems can remove legal impediments preventing the adoption and the international trading of digital assets.

The UK Jurisdiction Taskforce (UKJT) is one of the flagship initiatives of the LawtechUK Panel. Building on the success of the UKJT in producing authoritative legal statements on issues related to digital assets, its Chair, the Master of the Rolls, established the IJT as a sister group with an international focus.

The IJT is designed to be more agile and pragmatic than larger international law-making bodies. It aims to complement, not duplicate, their work by offering focused, practical guidance grounded in the realities of cross-border transactions.

The IJT will be happy to receive more input from the public in relation to its work. To be notified as soon as a public consultation event or paper is announced, sign up for the LawtechUK newsletter. Contact: hello@lawtechuk.io.
