Established by the LawtechUK Panel in 2020, the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce (UKJT) is an industry-led initiative, tasked with promoting the use of English law and UK’s jurisdictions for technology and digital innovation. The purpose of the UKJT is to clarify key questions regarding the legal status of, and basic legal principles applicable to, crypto assets, distributed ledger technology, smart contracts and associated technologies under English law.

The UK Jurisdiction Taskforce (UKJT) was established by the LawtechUK panel and operates as an independent initiative. LawtechUK is grant-funded by the Ministry of Justice and operated by CodeBase and Legal Geek.
A legal statement is an authoritative statement that aims to provide the best possible answers to critical legal questions under English law.
It seeks to demonstrate the ability of the common law in general, and English law in particular, to respond consistently and flexibly to new commercial mechanisms within emerging technologies.
The UKJT publishes a minimum of one legal statement per year.
